Jamie could hear his own feet running along the floor as well as the sound of his own heart beating faster and faster. It was mid-night and he took a short cut in a maze of tunnels to escape the beast that was hunting him. The red head child with brown eyes snuck into the kitchen to steal some cookies when he heard something whisper, where’s my flesh?
Jamie remembered the horror stories of what happened to the other children a few days ago. As he kept running through the dark tunnels with a lantern in his hand, he could hear the deep voice of the creature behind him.
“Where’s my flesh?” it growled.
Jamie stopped to look back with the lantern and in the distance of the dark tunnels he saw the creature’s yellow eyes gleaming at him like a gargoyle. Jamie screamed his head off and started to run again. The boy kept running as fast as he could, but each step he made seemed to move slower and slower.
He could hear the deep breathing of the beast and heard the sound of a roar near his ears. The boy ran up to the open metal grate and climbed up the wooden ladder. He closed his eyes and quickly pushed the huge metallic object with his hands and lifted it up as he crawled out.
“Where’s my flesh?” the beast shouted as it grabbed the boy’s ankles, bit off both feet and began eating them while holding his ankles.
Jamie screamed, but nobody was coming to his rescue. He felt his legs go numb and the sound of growl through his ears as blood shot out of his mouth and his eyes became still. His body was dragged back under the metallic grate as the flesh beast began to eat Jamie, bone and flesh.
It was dawn and little Barry opened his eyes to see the sun peer in from the window. He was sent to the Insane Asylum Correctional Facility for Boys and Girls for trying to kill his little brother. His parent’s didn’t know what to do with him because of the reckless swearing and killing cute little animals.
Barry Bates rose out of bed to get ready for breakfast and noticed that Jamie Bogie was not in bed. The black haired, twelve year old ca ca mouth boy got out of bed and looked around. His other friend Steve Lickee was still sleeping. Steve and Barry were best friends, but only met each other for a short time and became twits to make each other look bad.
Barry was into that kind of trouble making and liked it like that. Steve was another trouble maker often involved in picking fights with other kids and swearing. He got sent to the institute for picking on and beating up a fellow student in school for nothing. This blonde hair, brown eyed bully found himself put in the institute by order of the principle of the school in Shellmont.
Amy Quin opened her eyes to see it was morning and she already hated it. Amy hated the asylum and thought Ms. Knealson was a witch. It was her third week in the insane asylum and this blonde hair, intelligent, preteen heard awful stories from many of the students that the flesh beast ate the children and would repeatedly ask where’s my flesh?.
Amy was brought to the asylum for lying, stealing and fighting with other girls. Amy managed to make friends with Koko, Steve, Barry and Jamie. Her girl friend Koko Strike was brought in for making a hit list to kill other students. When asked why? She said it was for fun and that she wanted to know what it would be like to hunt another human being.
Koko was reported repeatedly for talking about how she liked to wear the color black and that it made her feel closer to her goal of blending with shadows. The psychologist of Shellmont School thought that if nothing was done she would become a slayer.
Of course Koko was just joking around and wasn’t serious. The hit list was a list of who to steal money from not to kill, but nobody saw it that way. The twelve year old brown eyed, burnet became good friends with Amy. They were like sisters and shared the same room. Amy woke up to take a shower, got dressed and walked down stairs to meet her friends for breakfast.
Amy, Barry and Steve sat at the table with the other kids as they waited for breakfast. They were quiet and knew the reason why Jamie wasn’t at the table. The other kids were busy talking about the day and what they were going to do for the next class. The younger kids got to play all day, but still learned arithmetic, reading and writing.
Then a student came to the table with a tray full of food. He was about twelve, slender with black hair and brown eyes. The boy looked like he was afraid of something.
“Is it alright if I sit with you?” he asked.
The other three students shrugged and Steve spoke up, “sure, we don’t care, we’re sick of this place.”
“Yeah this place is for maggots,” replied Barry. “What’s your name?”
“My name is Adam.”
“Where’s Jamie?” interrupted Koko as she looked at Barry.
Barry looked at the twelve year old misfit girl with a distinguished look on his face. It seemed pretty obvious why he wasn’t at the table. The dumb kid had to go run around the asylum looking for the flesh beast.
“What are you guys talking about?” asked Adam.
“We’re talking about your mom,” replied Barry. “She saw me and got excited.
Adam began turning red and looked angry, but said nothing. Barry just looked at him with a cocky laugh and talked to Steve. Adam already didn’t like the kid and wanted to beat his brains in, but then the flesh beast popped in his mind. The creature that ate naughty children would enjoy chomping on this maggot mouth pee brain.
“So is this thing for real or is just some kid dressed up in a suit?” asked Barry.
“I don’t know? For all I know it could be a polka dot dinosaur singing koombia after it steals kids,” said Steve.
“I heard it uses your fingers as toothpicks after each meal,” replied Amy as she laughed.
“It does,” agreed Adam.
“Yeah, well how would you know?” asked Barry.
“Because I saw it,” replied Adam as he watched Barry, Steve and Amy’s eyes widened. “I was eight years old and it ate my two friends.”
Then all of a sudden something crept up behind Amy and grabbed her waist while yelling, “where’s my flesh?”
It was Koko and she unleashed a scream with Amy. All the kids stopped eating and looked at them. The group felt embarrassed and Koko continued to scream.
“Would you shut your blood sucking mouth you dumb dog eat dog whore!” exclaimed Barry.
Then the students continued to eat and carry on their own conversations. Steve and Barry took a deep breath and felt relief that they wouldn’t continue to get stared down by the students.
“Where’s Jamie?” asked Koko as she laughed in her high pitch squeaky voice.
“Hey I could have choked on my food and died,” replied Amy.
Barry set his head down on the table and then raised it, “I got to get out of this ship of fotay maggots.”
“He got eaten by the flesh beast,” replied Steve.
“So who’s going to be next?” laughed Koko
She took an orange began unpeeling it while carefully putting pieces of it in her mouth and sucked the juices. Adam got goosebumps from it because it was exactly how the flesh beast ate his friend Joey.
“Hopefully you,” replied Barry.
“Is there a problem?” said a voice.
“No Ms. Knealson everything is fine,” replied Steve.
“Good, where’s Jamie?” she asked.
“We don’t know,” answered Steve.
Ms. Knealson looked at Adam as her pupil turned yellow just slightly and then back to black. Adam raised his eyebrows in fear as he remembered the past.
“Are you ok Adam?” asked Ms. Knealson.
“Yes, never better.”
“Good,” she answered and walked away.
“That lady is a dog dong,” whispered Barry.
“Yeah,” they all agreed except Adam who turned pale.
“Hey maggot boy,” said Barry. “What do you think of her?”
“She’s evil,” answered Adam.
“Well I think this flesh beast is a joke and I’m going to prove it. Let’s all gang up on whoever is behind this and beat them up. Are you in or out?” asked Barry.
“I’m in,” answered Adam.
It was dark and all the children were sleeping in their beds. Barry and Steve were awake and creeping by the door in their clothes. They walked into Adam’s room to wake him up.
Barry slapped his hand across Adam’s face and whispered, “wake up maggot boy.”
Adam woke up and rubbed his eyes, “what time is it?”
“It’s about a quarter to midnight,” answered Steve.
“We got work to do,” whispered Barry.
